Bhedaghat

Where the Narmada slips between towering walls of marble, then gathers itself into the roar and mist of Dhuandhar Falls.

Breathtaking Bhedaghat

A river written in marble.

Near Jabalpur, the Narmada has carved a narrow passage through immense marble cliffs. In changing light the rock shifts from white and grey to soft pink and gold, reflected in the dark water below.

A boat ride through the Marble Rocks is the quiet counterpoint to nearby Dhuandhar Falls. One experience is still and luminous; the other is all force, spray and sound.

The Marble Rocks

Let the boat drift between stone and sky.

MP Tourism describes boat rides through Bhedaghat as one of the destination’s defining experiences, with marble walls that appear to change shape and colour around each bend.

On the Narmada

At noon the marble is bright as bone. Toward evening it softens, catching colour from the sky. The boatman’s voice carries across the water, and every turn of the gorge reveals another impossible wall of stone.

Dhuandhar Falls

The Narmada turns to thunder.

At Dhuandhar, the river drops through a rocky gorge with enough force to throw a smoky veil of spray into the air — the image behind the name “Dhuandhar.”

MP Tourism describes a roughly 10-metre drop and recommends the viewing platforms for a close look at the falls. A cable-car experience can provide an elevated view when operating.

“First you hear it. Then the spray rises above the gorge. Only when you reach the edge do you see the Narmada folding itself into white water.”
